I love old, vintage silver pieces.
You have seen the silverplated salt and pepper shakers that I turned into snowmen:
The silverplated cream and sugar bowls that became pincushions:
And the numerous silver trays, plates and bowls that I use around my house for:
Storage in my studio
Display in my guest room
Base of a cloche displaying vintage sewing notions
But recently I saw a couple of pictures from fellow bloggers/decorators that had me gathering my collection together so that I could recreate one of their fabulous displays.
This first picture is from
Polly pictured her display of silver trays hanging as wall art in her living room
(a fabulous retail boutique in Kansas City that I luckily live close to)
was recently featured in the Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Ideas magazine with her display of hanging silver trays (photo from Better Homes and Gardens Christmas Ideas magazine)
I haven't hung them yet but pictured here is a large part of my vintage collection that I have purchased at thrift stores over the past few months that are just waiting to be turned into art.
I will get pictures posted as soon as I get them hung.
But wait....I have one more thrifty, silver piece that I bought this week that I am so excited about.
A silverplated punch bowl (this bowl is huge!)....for $8.00!!! Can't you just see this at Christmas filled with greenery, pinecones and white lights!!!
And doesn't it look great sitting atop one of my extra large silverplated trays (another thrifty find this week for $10.00).
So there's my silver inspiration for this week....I'm linking to two parties today:
and
Thanks to both ladies for hosting these great Thursday events.

You are so creative in utilizing your collections! You have some lovely pieces, do you ever polish them or do you leave them as is?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of hanging trays. It could be a lot of work if you tried to keep them polished.
ReplyDeleteThat punch bowl is amazing! What a great find. I love the idea of the silver platters as an art installation.
ReplyDeleteI keep collecting silver platters to do just the same thing. I will be eager to see your display:)
ReplyDeleteYour post was very inspirational! I love silver too, but I don't have quite the collection you have. I can't wait to see your trays on your wall...Keep us posted!
ReplyDelete*Gasp*!! I love that new bowl!!!!
ReplyDeletePlease post pics asap of your wall- I am dying to know how BHG hung those platters, I would love to do this- I have just the blank wall for it- just have to start collecting the platters! I love how they look when they're tarnished! Thanks for always tuning into my blog and leaving such sweet comments- your opinions are always welcomed...
Love your silver. Creative ideas too! Love the ornate tray.
ReplyDeleteI've been picking up pieces lately but not enough yet to make a display. I really prefer them dull rather than shiny - even some tarnish is fine.
the punch bowl is my favorite, I love it.
ReplyDeleteThat punch bowl is awesome! Greenery in it at Christmas would be beautiful. Feeling some inspiration here! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteThat punch bowl is to die for!!!
ReplyDeleteI know one thing for sure...we are definitely NOT werewolves...because if we were , we would be dead for sure...loving and touching so much silver!!!
Oh, Jane! I LOVE that look and it is something I never would've thought of. Call me a copy cat....
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to thrifty Thursday today! FABULOUS finds!

I can't wait to see all of those trays hanging on your walls. They'll look fabulous! And I'm in love with those S&P snowmen! What a great idea. Your creativity knows no bounds!
ReplyDeleteHappy VTT!
Carol
You have a great collection yourself Jane. I think you should turn that great punch bowl upside down, put that tray on top of it and use it as a great cake stand or a base for a cloche. If you can't figure out what to use it for, just throw it in a box and send it on to me!
ReplyDeleteI NEVER polish any of my silver. I love the character it adds as it ages. As far as how to hang them on the wall, you can use hidden plate hangers. Google them. I used regular plate hangers because I don't mind if you see them, but lots of people I've seen doing wall displays lately are using these hidden ones.
Would love to see your wall when you finish.
Jane! Where on earth did you find that punch bowl for that price??? I want to go shopping with you.
ReplyDeleteI have got to tell you that those little snowpeole are the cutest thing going. I love that idea. So clever.
I'll be interested to see what you do with the other idea, but I am still in shock that you got that neat punch bowl fo $8. What a steal!
I didn't do the memes today, but I did do something with burlap that you won't believe. Come by if you get a chance...
XO,
Sheila :-)
Hi Jane!

I saw something the other day that I'm going to post about (a magnetic chalkboard made out of one of these silver pieces)--stay tuned to my blog for the post later today or tonight! Love your post and your blog!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a awesome collection!

These are great ideas. Love your snowmen and the pin cushions! I see silver platers and odd pieces all the time at Goodwill. I might have to start picking up some of them now! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love your silver pieces. I own a few pieces but not like yours. I also love them mixed with venetian mirrors and candlesticks. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI have seen the square vases at various shops and now I know what they were meant for. Your pattern with the measureing tape detail was GREAT. And the snowmen were just TOO cute!
ReplyDeleteThis was an awesome post!!
I LOVE your silver -- particularly the pincushions with the animal print fabric. Those are wonderful. I also love your punch bowl. I just wonder how you keep them all polished. My silver (2 pieces) tarnishes so quickly.
ReplyDeleteWow, look at all of that silver. Your wall display is going to look amazing. I do love your sweet vignettes though.
ReplyDeleteJane - I LOVE ALL YOUR SILVER! :) Your little snowmen are super cute.
