Guest Room Redo - Part 2

First I want to say thank you for all of the wonderful comments/suggestions/advice I received about the guest room redo that I am undertaking this week.  I read every comment and really appreciate the time you guys took to give me the encouragement I needed to get this project rolling.  Pictures of the "before" and my ideas for the room are posted here.

My original plan was to shop for paint yesterday morning, prep the room yesterday afternoon and start painting bright and early this morning.  Of course this didn't work out as planned but by late afternoon yesterday I finally managed to make my paint selection and at 8:00 last night I was at Lowe's buying this fabulous paint:

Valspar #3001-9A - Chocolate Turtle
Seriously, this paint looked like a gallon of melted chocolate!

I got the first coat on the walls today and I LOVE it.  I'm holding off showing you any pictures until I get the 2nd coat on.

Now to the fun part of my post.  Like I mentioned yesterday I am going for a vintage, travel theme in this room.  Several of you mentioned stacking old suitcases for a nightstand and I think it's a great idea.  Here's a picture of some of the vintage suitcase collection that I plan on using in the room.

In addition to the suitcases I have some other vintage accessories that will be displayed in the room.

Three cream and brown vintage alarm clocks:

A small cream colored vintage fan:

And a small collection of vintage, frameless mirrors (sorry for the terrible picture).

So that's a little insight into what is going into the room.  Final decisions on bedding and curtains haven't been made yet but I'll keep you posted.  Thanks again for your encouragement!

I'm linking with Suzanne @ Coloradolady for Vintage Thingies Thursday.  Thanks Suzanne for hosting this party that is near and dear to my vintage-loving heart!

Happy New Year.

I'm curious to see what you'll do for window treatment. I just put up a painters drop cloth in our guest room with my nine-patch Garden Magic quilt. I'm loving the effect.

Those vintage suitcases already look fantastic as they are so with the other accessories you've shown, I can already tell this is gonna be one fantastic makeover. Wishing you all the best. :) Tammy

  29. Can't wait to see the finished room. I seriously need to paint some walls in my house. I've lived here 5 years with white walls. I just can't make up my mind what color I want. Maybe seeing your finished room will motivate me.

P.S. I think a vintage globe would look great in the room as well.

  30. Jane!
I'm so excited to see the finished room! Each piece is fantastic in and of itself... can't wait to see them all together! Wayne and I started using stacked suitcases when we were first married and had no money, we still use the same vintage cases today! Love it!

    Mary Lou

  38. Can hardly wait to see the finished room-love that paint color it looks similar to one I have used, making me want some chocolate.............

  39. Hi Jane!
This room will be beautiful! Love your suitcases and the colors you have planned! I hope you have a very Happy New Year!
    Take care, Laura

  40. Happy New Year, Jane! I love the idea of a vintage travel room; I want to come and stay. With the suitcases, be sure to weigh then down if they are at all wobbly. I've seen tables made of them with a piece of wood screwed into their bottoms to keep them all attached. But that would lower they value. Just a thought!

  41. Love the paint color...and also the old suitcases...can't wait to see it all finished. I am also doing a little make-over...I get bored quite quickly and could actually redecorate every 2 months if I could afford it!! Happy New Year

  42. Hi Jane,

Love the color you picked. those suitcases will be perfect for a table. great storage too.
can't wait to see what you come up with. I know it will be great!

  43. Chocolate Truffle looks yummy! And your vintage items are perfect. Oh, I was thinking a nice accent color may be red. It seems you gravitate more to warm colors and I love the jute/burlap pillows with red ticking that I've been seeing a lot of lately. Hope you had a wonderful New Year's Eve, and relaxing day today. (Love the new blog background too!)

  44. It is going to be so great! I can't wait to see the finished product!

  45. What a rich color! I LOVE all things vintage. Your luggage, clocks and fan are great finds. Have a great week! ~Lisa
