More Guest Bedroom Redo Pictures

Today I posted a quick preview picture of my guest room redo with a promise of more pictures.  I was able to get the pictures taken today and wanted to share them with you.

My original concept was a vintage, travel themed room.  What I ended up with was a less "travel" themed room but one that did incorporate a lot of my vintage treasures.....suitcases, mirrors and accessories.  All of these things were pieces I already owned.  The only new things in the room are the bedspread, pillow shams, dust ruffle (Bed, Bath and Beyond), and material (Walmart) for the curtains that I made.  Because I already had all of the other pieces this room redo cost me right around $200.00.

Today I'm joining Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis MondayRoeshel @ The DIY Showoff, and Jules @ The Persimmon Perch for Made It Monday. Please link back to all of these blogs to view lots of great projects.

Here are some before and after pictures.....let me know what you think!

I was able to reuse several pieces that were already in the room.  This purple bookcase....

Was painted white and moved over by the bed for a nightstand.

The little bench that was in front of the bed....

Was moved to the wall where the bookcase was and used as a base for a few of my vintage suitcases.  I changed the fabric out to a green that coordinated with the rest of the greens in the room.

The shelf that was hanging above the bed.....

Was moved to above the TV and accessorized with the vintage plates from all the states that we have lived in (and I finally found my Minnesota plate).

And the ladder placed to the left of the bed is something I have had for about 5 years just waiting to be used in one of my rooms.  I drybrushed some white paint on it and accessorized it with a knitted throw that I made when I was in high school (thus making it vintage!).

The two pictures hanging above the bed were originally hanging in my master bedroom.  The colors were perfect for this room so I hung them in here and topped it off with a chippy painted wood piece that I purchased years ago.  I didn't have to do a thing to this piece except hang it....it was a perfect fit!

So there you have it.  I now need to update the adjoining bathroom and I have some wonderful vintage mirrors, an old oak medicine cabinet and some vintage shaving items that will be used to carry the vintage theme into the bath.

Have a great week.
Jane

  10. Jane, I'll take your first available opening! I love the room! You did such a great job incorporating all the wonderful collections (suitcases, plates) with items you so creatively re-purposed! I must say I really love the way you hung your new drapes, framing the window to create an illusion of a much larger window! Beautiful fabric choice too!
Love it...can't wait to see what you do in the bathroom!

  27. The guest room makeover looks fantastic! Love all of the suitcases, and the bench looks great at the foot of the bed. One of the previous owners painted a wall in the basement chocolate brown, and there's still a couple of gallons in the paint stash. I'm not happy with the color I painted one of our extra rooms, and the chocolate does look so nice. Mmm, it's a thought ;-)

  39. Hello Jane~ Ever since winter landed on our doorstep...it provided us the motivation for a few indoor remodeling projects...in two homes! Which can be a bit daunting. So, I relish the breaks I get for blog visits.
It gives me opportunity to pick up decorating ideas. Your guest are going to enjoy a little R&R in your charming room.
It's wonderful how sharing blog friends as yourself can be, that's why I love returning the gesture with cooking and DIY ideas too.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

  43. Hi, Jane! You have done wonderfully with your room redo! I can't believe how many vintage suitcases you have - and clocks - and...! I really like the new look. I am very partial to old ladders, and had a repro one for years before getting rid of it prior to a move. I have regretted it ever since. Congrats, and thanks for the nice pictures.
