It's day two of showing off one of my collections. Yesterday I showed you these:
And today we're moving into the bathroom to show you this, my shaving inspired collection that is displayed in my guest bathroom.
I have collected various vintage shaving items for a couple of years and have had them displayed on the counter in my guest bathroom. About a month ago I found this wonderful oak medicine cabinet at a thrift store for $12.00. I knew it would work great in the guest bathroom and today I finally had some time to make some minor changes before hanging it in the bathroom.
The medicine cabinet came with a mirror:
I wanted to use this as a display piece so I removed the mirror and was left with this old blue wallpaper liner:
I attempted to remove the paper but it must have been glued with super glue because it wasn't coming off without a struggle. Plan B....I painted over the paper with leftover off-white paint from one of my guest bedroom projects. It took 3 coats of paint to cover the paper but that's all I had to do to the cabinet before hanging in the bathroom.
An easy hanging job and I was able to start filling it with my collection.......
Although this wasn't a big change I'm linking up with Susan @ Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday. Make sure you visit to view some great "before and afters".
Have a great week.

I really love this display! My Mister collects vintage shaving items and I would love a display like that in our bathroom. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThe pieces from the collection are awesome, and the way you display them in one vignette is fabulous. What an eye-catching focal piece. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a great collection! Whenever I see a shaving brush and mug I think of my grandpa and watching him use one! Great memory! :)

Wow! I like this collection too. I have a shaving stand just like that and some shaving mugs that belonged to my granfathers. I have a bunch of other shaving related items all in a cabinet in my bathroom. I like how you displayed an old photo...can't wait to see the next collection.
ReplyDeleteSuch a neat collection! I am so impressed with how you arranged it. Can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteYou have some really interesting collections. I will be on the lookout for you when I am out hunting. LOve that you shared these!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection--displayed perfectly!
ReplyDeleteThat is the neatest collection! I remember my father's shaving brush and cup. He still uses it I think!
ReplyDeleteWonderful collection and you have it all displayed beautifully.
ReplyDeleteAgain, so unique...I just love it!!!
ReplyDeleteA great use for that cabinet! I like your shaving collection -- you hae some great finds.
ReplyDeleteI, too, collect hose nozzles. They're on a ledge in my garden shed. They look so great lined up like soldiers!
I didn't think you could top the brass nozzle display, but of course you did. The shaving cabinet looks fantastic. I love how you added the mustached man in as well.
ReplyDeleteYou have some very cool collections, Jane, and they are displayed so artfully. I absolutely love the shaving mirror with the crack in it. There is something so cool about it. I, too, like pieces that were utilitarian.
ReplyDeleteYou sure know how to display your collections to their best advantage! I love that old cabinet, and it's just perfect to hold this collection!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun collection and I absolutely love how you displayed them.
ReplyDeleteJane, I love the way you have displayed your old shaving gear collection. Cool cabinet...you just need one of those old fashioned straight edges to round out your collection!
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! What a perfect piece to display your collection in. It looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda :)
Jane-I love love this collection and you have found the perfect way to display it. I remember watching my grandfather use one of these brushes. The vintage picture in the case is just perfect!
ReplyDeleteBTW-I forgot--I love your header too! Is this your family? I wonder how long it took her to get everybody ready and looking so good :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeletePerfect little cabinet for your display. You have some neat things!

Another wonderful collection showcased as only you can.
ReplyDeleteFabulous.

Very neat shaving brush collection!! I think I used to have that same cabinet in my bathroom, only ours had been painted sickly pepto bismol bubblegum pink by the previous owners. (We took it down and hung a wicker mirror instead. )
ReplyDeleteJane, that is the perfect display piece for your collection. I love the mirror that holds both the shaving brush and the cup. I still remember watching my Grandpa lathering up with a shaving brush.
ReplyDeleteYou find the best stuff...I'd love to go thrifting with you.
Looks great - nice collection. Now this may be weird but when I saw the shaving brush with the red bristles it reminded me of something. And then it came to me.........Conan O'Brien. Haha!
ReplyDeleteYour collection looks so nice with this cabinet. Great job! Loved the nozzels too. My husband, a groundskeeper) would love those.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
What a neat collection! It really does look perfect in that cabinet. Thanks for showing us.

All these little vignettes in your home are works of art--bits and pieces from here and there--creating such lovely displays for all to admire. Looking forward to the next collection.

It's all so well put together, Jane. You have fun watching for things to add to your collections, I just know. I like how you added the pic of the man with moustache with your pieces.
ReplyDeleteYes, my sisters in law know what I like. We enjoy talking "decorating" most times that we are together...I'm very fortunate to have them in my life.
