Ever since I contacted Karen @ My Desert Cottage to join the "Where Blogger's Create II" party on June 19th I have been on a mission to organize my studio space (no small task!).
I use a lot of lace and ribbon in my projects and I like to have it easily accessible. A couple of weeks back I showed you how I was organizing some of the vintage lace I have collected (you can see the original post here).
The lace was wrapped around rulers and paint sticks and placed in a vase on my work station so that I could see what I had on hand when I started a project. This system was working fine but I ran out of room in the vase for all of the lace that I have collected. While at a thrift store last week I spotted this large wood spool (14" tall).
I added 8 cup hooks to the top edge of the spool....
and then hung the lace covered rulers from the cup hooks. The spool takes very little space on my work station and it's a great way to quickly see all the lace that I might need for a project.
I think this would also be a great way to hang and organize necklaces too.
I'm linking to two wonderful parties....Jan @ Bobbiepins Boardwalk for Boardwalk Bragfest and Marla @ Always Nesting for Woo Hoo Wednesday. Thanks to both ladies for hosting these wonderful memes.

ReplyDeleteJane thank you for linking to the party. I have to tell you that your gift for organization is as great as your gift for creation. It appears that you are creating a space that is a reflection of your personal design style -- how PERFECT! I can't wait to see the finished space.
ReplyDeleteHow great! You are so creative in your thinking and working with your hands!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, not only functional but pretty too!

ReplyDeleteOh Jane what a great idea! I have a collection of the wooden spools and will now be putting them to use. They're just sitting on a shelf in my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful day.
I like this! It's perfect and you can really see all your pretty laces...hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I think it would be wonderful for necklaces. I think my mom has an old one somewhere. I just might have too steal it . As always thanks for the great ideas :)
ReplyDeleteJane that is genius! I bet it looks perfect on your worktable. All of my ribbon and trim is smooshed in a basket and a couple of small drawers and on a tray that sits on my table, and truth be told I may be stepping on some right now! Another one of your great ideas to get me organized! Thanks, Theresa
ReplyDeleteJane, you are the most niftiest, thriftiest almost fiftiest year old chickadee I have ever met! (well, we haven't actually met, but you know what I mean) Great idea! I want you to know that a couple of weeks ago, thanks to your idea, I was wrapping my own lace around wooden clothespin pegs. Thanks for sharing and inspiring. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeletewhat a brilliant idea!!!
ReplyDeleteHow do you think of these things. I love your lace on old rulers, but then hanging on an old spool is just over the top cute. I will be coming back to see more of these great organizing tricks. I love the magazine "Where Women Create" Is that connected to the blog you mentioned? Well, I'll just go check it out.
ReplyDeleteagain, you are sooooo creative...its perfect!
ReplyDeleteNot only clever but very very pretty! This is on my list when I redo my craft room. Thanks for the great post!
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest idea!!! It's very functional and soooo pretty!!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow, that makes it so easy for you to see what trim you need...and it looks like it was made for your studio!
ReplyDeleteYour storage solutions always make me smile! They are functional and so cute!!
ReplyDeleteLove the spool & lace idea. Where will you be in England? In London, there are many well known markets like Portobello Road, Camden Lock, Spitalfields and Bermondsey (all have websites or google: London Flea Markets.) I found some fun stuff at these, but overall they are quite expensive. The best (junkiest!) stuff like car boot sales and rummages you will find outside of central London. There is a guide which I will try to forward to you that lists all the markets by day and location.
ReplyDeleteIs this trip for your 50th like mine was? Happy Birthday!

P.S. Thrift shops in the U.K. are called "charity shops".

Yes, Jane, I would love to clean your floors for you--as long as you would give me one of your fabulous vintage creations as payment!
ReplyDeleteWell, aren't you just the most clever girlie! LOVE that idea. Now, if I can just run across a nice spool for myself. I used to have several of those when I decorated in the primitive style, but they're long gone...seeeeeee.......that's why I hang onto EVERYTHING....if I get rid of it, I NEED it..
ReplyDeleteHuggies,
Spencer
I'm pretty much a failure as a crafter but do love your blog and also what you have done with the spool. Such creativity I long for. *sighs*
