Welcome to my studio. I'm so glad you stopped by for a visit.
Last year at this time I didn't have a blog. I was reading a lot of blogs and marveling at the talent of the bloggers I "stalked" but I was hesitant to start a blog of my own.
What changed my mind? Karen's first "Where Blogger's Create" party last July. When I saw the information about that party last summer I had just finished creating a studio space in a spare bedroom. Wanting to join the party and show off my space was just the push I needed to start my blog. It was a great decision and I have Karen and her "Where Blogger's Create" party to thank!
So I am very happy to be joining in on the fun again this year. My studio is part creative space, part display space for my collections and part getaway space for reading and relaxing. The mood of the room reflects my love of all things vintage and I have incorporated all of my vintage, thrifty finds to create a space that is definitely me.
I hope you enjoy the tour.
The jumping off point for my studio was the antique mail cubby that I found at a local antique store.
The cubby holds pictures and favorite little objects that I have collected.
The top of the cubby holds a display of vintage sewing notions I have collected, with my prized possession being my Mom's old Singer featherweight sewing machine.
Thrift store and garage sale finds help keep my space organized (most of the time).
A German beer crate holds paint, glue and other supplies.
Vintage silver pieces organize jewelry finds.
A mail/letter holder now holds old photographs.
A vintage suitcase stores lace and purses.
An oak spice rack is now used to organize beads and other small supplies.
And ribbon finds a home in an old wood box and a chicken feeder.
On a small wall between the door to my studio and a bathroom door I have a small bookcase for more storage. Above it hangs a chippy white shelf with more favorite vintage finds.
On the wall opposite my work space is a display of family photos and a sofa for reading or watching TV. The sofa is covered with a $2.00 quilt I found at a thrift store. My dressform "Shirley" stands in the corner.
To the left of the sofa I have a very small space for a desk and my computer. Above the desk are two shelves I created using old wood crates and iron braces.
The last use for my studio is to display some of my many collections.
Brass hose nozzles hang over the door.
Vintage clocks are displayed above the windows.
Part of my "E" collection hangs on a wall.
And my collection of buttons is displayed in a vintage printer's drawer.
Thanks for stopping by for my tour. Please link back to Karen @ My Desert Cottage to view 100's of creative spaces being displayed for the Where Bloggers Create II party. You won't be disappointed!
Jane

What a gorgeous space to create in!
ReplyDeleteFinally! - This is THE post I've been waiting to see for the WWC party. Jane, this is absolutely magnificent! Every single storage idea is just perfect - perfect. I've looked at the pics over and over. I simply can't get enough.
ReplyDeleteYou know what I've noticed so far? Many of the spaces I've seen tonight (before the link-up) are bloggers who have mostly white based decor in their homes, but their crafting areas are chock full of color. I find that very interesting. I'm just the opposite, I have tons of color everywhere in my house, but my work space is all white.
What a treat it was to see this space all at one time. Thanks for sharing it. I hope you win and make it into the magazine. This would be such a treasure for all of the other creative types to see.
Wow, what an awesome space, Jane...and so neat!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
Loved the tour!! Great collection of E's! You have so many great old pieces and collections... that just adds so much charm to a space. Love your space! :) This is going to be one fun party!

Let me pick my jaw off the floor to say AMAZING! You have done just a magical job, you must want to be in your studio ALL the time I know I would. Now I might steal a couple of your ideas if you don't mind. BRAVO!
ReplyDeleteKelley

I think you definitely should have a magazine spread. Heck, I think you should have your own magazine -- you have the most wonderful ideas, you are so clever and thrifty. So very lovely. Best wishes for a wonderful weekend, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWow, your space is so dreamy full of lots of inspiring objects :) Btw, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment :)
ReplyDeleteMy hat's off to a woman who makes brass hose nozzles look good!! LOL :o) LOVE all your collections, and the storage pieces you repurpose from vintage finds are OUTSTANDING! I love your wrapped laces and linens and buttons! It's all fabulous Jane! I am so happy you started blogging - can't wait to follow your site and see what you're up to next!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and kind words too - this is a wonderful party!
Hugs & Blessings,
Becky
What a wonderful creative spot! I see many happy hours being spent here...hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog, too! I love your studio. Looks like we have a lot of the same things. I spotted a frog or two in your room! And since my last name starts with "T" I collect "T"s. I have the same T as your E - the metal with scroll-ey cut out areas. Someday when my kids move out maybe I'll have a whole room. Although right now I'd like to keep the kids around for a while. :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, I had hoped to participate in Where Bloggers Create but since my space still looks more like your "before" photos from a few posts back, I'm not going to make the party. You clean up good! What a great space you have, love all the antique new use pieces. I'm going to use your buttons in the printers drawers idea. I've bought a couple recently only because they were so cheap, not know what I'd do with them. Thanks for the idea, Susanne.
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely space you have. I would love to play in that room! In fact, I would love for someone to give me a shoebox and tell me I could keep everything I fit in the box in 5 minutes. Wouldn't THAT be fun????? Cheers
Hi Jane, WOW!!!!! your creative space is just incredible. I love every unique inch of this world of inspiration you have created!! You inspire me with your great pics. So glad you started your blog and designed your amazing studio.

Hey my dear Jane...
ReplyDeleteI'm late, I know...but for a good reason.
I wanted to find the perfect time to snuggle in my chair with an ice cold Dr. Pepper and just be able to get lost in your room.
And I did. It was the BEST part of my afternoon!
Matter of fact, I read it three times and studied each and every photo. I so admire your creativity but what I enjoyed the most was that almost everything you showed us today, (including all the details of every nook and cranny), I've recalled each and every blog post of yours in my mind.
With each photo, I remember how you shared your fabulous ideas of creating such wonderful storage and decorative ideas.
My favorite? Can't say because I love them ALL, but your collection of "E's", your holiday embellished cabinet cards and your fabulous mail cubby all hold a special place in my heart!
You are so creative Jane...you are such an inspiration to me and I'm sure MANY others out here who wait for you to post something beautiful every day :)
I'm so happy that you let us into your world again this year. I'm looking forward to seeing many MANY more thrifty finds and hearing about creative ideas from you :)
Thank you for the inspiration.
Thank you for always sharing.
Thank you Jane...for being YOU!
:)))))
Hi Jane, you and I started blogging right at the same time, I just missed Karen's first party. Your space is wonderful, it's so inspirational! And I have to say the old Featherweight Singer really brought back memories, that's what I learned to sew on. My mom had one from the time she was young and that's what she used. Loved seeing your space, that counter is fabulous!
ReplyDeletexo,
Debra

ReplyDeleteOh, Jane, your space is fabulous! I love the creative ways you store and display things. The cubby is fantastic. Your spirit is reflected in everything. Oh, and that Featherweight! I dream of owning one some day. I had the chance to sew on my friend's for a while last year and fell in love with it.

Jane,
ReplyDeleteWere we separated at birth? We have so many similar items don't you think. My "Z" wall is in my computer room, and my wooden open cubbies are above my computer table downstairs, but we could mix and match items and they would all blend. I love your space. It feels like home to me!
How have I missed following you?
