I've been wanting to organize some of my old photos, cabinet cards and ephemera that I use in projects and went to my local scrapbook store to see what I could find. They sold a great system that would be perfect for my needs but the retail price of the base alone was $65.00. So I purchased these clips (around $6.50 for a pack of 25) and set about creating my own system.
I went to the thrift store and found a lamp shade for $2.99.
I took the fabric off the lampshade and was left with the metal frame.
The clips slid right on the top of the lampshade frame and were ready to hold photos and trims.
I currently have the frame sitting on a lazy susan so that I can turn the frame to easily access all of the ephemera.
But this is a rather large frame and takes up quite a bit of space on my work top. I'm thinking another option is to actually put the lampshade frame on a lamp to lift the organization system off my work space. Organization and lighting all wrapped up in one!
Here's one last idea I had for the frame that I'm thinking of using on a lamp as part of my Halloween display.
Six cabinet card photos were secured to the frame at the top and the bottom to create a lampshade that has my husband shaking his head and asking Why?
I thought this was a nifty, thrifty project so I'm linking with Linda @ Coastal Charm for Nifty Thrifty Tuesday. Go check it out....lots of fun thrifty finds being shared.
Jane

Once again genius just genius.
ReplyDeleteI really love how the cabinet cards look all around it with the light peeping out. I have one similar but I used clothespins on mine. I like the clips idea, more streamline looking.
Always so great to see what you have been up to Jane
Amy
That is an inspired idea. I have a vintage potatoe chip holder from an old store sitting on the back porch that would function much the same. hugs♥olive

ReplyDeleteI saw that organizer online and thought...great idea, but who would pay that much? I like yours better anyway. It has more character. So cute the second way too. You could decorate it differently for all the holidays!

Hi Jane! When my husband asks why? I reply with... "why because it's fabulous ofcourse"!!!!! And let me tell you, both of those ideas are fabulous and genius! and I love the clips... very industrial cool! Another great idea, Thanks! Theresa xoxo
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea, Jane! I love the idea of using it to hold your pictures and paper supplies, but also in its Halloween outfit. Very creative!
ReplyDeleteWhy? Because it's awesome! I've come to the conclusion that men are basically old-fashioned and don't accept change or new ideas as easily as women do. He must be jealous, because you're so clever!
ReplyDeleteJane,
ReplyDeleteHow clever! I love this idea!
This sure does inspire me to use some objects that I've had on hand for a while! Of course, you always inspire me!

Cool idea! I've been wondering what those clips are called.
ReplyDeleteI need some of what you have in that head of yours that helps you come up with these ideas. That is just the best one yet. I am stealing this one for sure. I can think of so many sewing things I could hang from a shade with those clips. You rock, Jane.
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea! and execution!
ReplyDeleteLove it Jane!!I think those ladies need some witch hats too! lol
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Very ingenious! I like the lampshade from cabinet cards especially!
ReplyDeleteOnce again....amazed by your creativity. LOVE this idea. I JUST sold a VERY similar lampshade at my garage sale....isn't that always the way? And, my hubbs wonders why the garage is Standing Room Only. :-)
