Painted Silverplate

It's hard to believe it's already time for White Wednesday and Wow Us Wednesday.
I love a three day weekend!

This is a wedding photo of my grandparents....June 14, 1928.  My Grandfather was 24 years old and my Grandmother was 23.
I "framed" the photo using a painted silverplated bowl.

Although I personally like the look of tarnished silver, this bowl had really seen better days.    A fresh coat of paint did it some good.  After the paint dried, I distressed the raised areas with sandpaper to expose just a little bit of the silver.
I used rub-ons to add the phrase "Always and Forever".
And also this little scroll work at the top.
I printed the wedding photo of my grandparents and cut it to fit in the bottom of the bowl.
I thought this was a fun way to repurpose an unused silverplated bowl and display my grandparents wedding photo from so long ago.
I'm linking with:

Happy Wednesday!

  2. Hi Jane! This is gorgeous, your grandparents would be thrilled to see themselves displayed so beautifully. You were busy over the weekend... I missed a couple of posts and am so glad I went through them! The hinges have my mind in a whirl trying to remember where I have a small stash of them so that I can recreate that idea. I love it and I have a few fancy magnets that a good friend made for me. I know, lucky me!
I have one of the bottle baskets, mine is for canning jars though and I keep blue jars in it for candles and a bouquet of flowers in the center one for the table in the summer.
Love the menu board too, you are just a plethera of genius ideas! t. xooxoxoxooxox

  7. Another great idea. I don't know if you saw my post on Wall words, but my husband and my saying is part of what you put on the bowl...

  11. Oh/I really like this idea. I too love tarnished silver, but the way you distressed the paint to show the silver edging is beautiful. Where do you get rub-ons? I thought you stenciled it, but that would be hard to do since it wasn't a flat surface.

  21. This is such a great re-purpose project!!! I love the way the silver shows through when you distressed it and I'm sure the look will change nicely as the silver tarnishes to a soft patina! Love it!!!

  22. Brilliant! I've looked at various polish-won't-fix-this silverplated pieces at thrift stores with no idea that something so pretty could be lurking there.

  23. Your grandparent's photo looks awesome in this! If you don't mind my asking, what kind of paint did you use? And, did you put a primer of any sort on first? This piece is just perfect! You come up with such wonderful and creative ideas.

    Take care,
    Connie
