It's time once again for "Would You Buy It Wednesday" hosted by Stephanie @ Junker Newbie.
(I know, I'm a little late to the party).
I love the idea for this party.....post about something you bought at a thrift store or garage sale, etc. and then have your blog buddies weigh in on whether they would have purchased it.
So here's my "Would You Buy It Wednesday" item.
The bottom section of an old oak filing cabinet.
Cost: $5.00
It has one drawer.
And no top.
It didn't matter that the piece was topless because I had a couple of vintage suitcases that were a perfect fit for the top.
It's not in it's permanent spot yet but I think this is going to be my new bedside table in the guest room.
I do have another idea for this piece and I'll post about it tomorrow and have you weigh in on that idea too. There was no time tonight because I got sucked into watching "So You Think You Can Dance". Yeah, I think I can dance.....it's just that nobody else does.
Hope you had a nice evening.
Jane

LOL you go girl, get your groove on :)
ReplyDeleteFor $5 bucks who wouldn't buy it is the question
Amy

~Diane
It's perfect! Those wood tones are gorgeous. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the age on it and with the suitcases it is perfect. Yep I would buy this one!
ReplyDeleteThat makes a fabulous side table, Jane...and YES I would have bought it, too!
ReplyDeleteI think the drawer looks great with the vintage suitcases. Great for storage.

I would absolutely have bought that piece! Just love old boxes of any sort, and that's a nice one. What a wonderful transformation into a nightstand with those awesome old suitcases!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Kimberly
The cabinet is great, Jane! I would have bought it too and love your idea of putting the suitcases on top.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Julia
The great thing about that piece is it is so easy to make a top for it either with wood or marble or vintage suitcases like you did! Love it! Happy day to you, Tammy
ReplyDeleteWonderful find, just perfect with the suitcases on top.
ReplyDeleteI love the patina of old oak...for $5.00 I would have bought it. The suitcases are a great touch!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful Jane, extra storage too! Can't wait to see your second idea for it:@)
ReplyDeleteYes, I would buy it, Jane! Do you know the file ottomans {Ballard had one, don't know if they still do}. I think I would convert this into an ottoman and use the drawer for my filing. Especially being set up in my living room. Right now I have a nice wicker filing basket but I always loved that filing ottoman thingy.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane,
ReplyDeleteI think that it's perfect for your suitcases.
I thought of you the other night. I was at an auction and they had quite a few vintage metal pieces and such. I kept thinking, wonder what Jane would do with those!
hugs
Sissie
Heck yes! I'd grab that up in a heartbeat for 5 bucks. Have no idea what I'd do with it... but I'm sure the light bulb would go off sooner or later - lol
ReplyDeleteI probably wouldn't have, but you know how to create great things out of anything.
ReplyDeleteI probably would have let it go - would have been my loss.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the phrase..making a silk purse from a sow's ear"? That's what you always do Jane. You have a vision that most folks can't imagine. This is a nifty idea.

oh i LOVE it under the suitcases. clever...very clever. i found almost the EXACT set of filing cabinets curbside last summer...all 3 pieces, top and bottom. lucky day!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning, Jane,
ReplyDeleteOne can never have enough storage. And the suitcases look great on top.
Have a great day ~Natalie
I see a pillow top on that. great find.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have bought it but then I'm more a mid mod gal. But it looks amazing and will be a great night stand. That's what makes the junkin' world go 'round one man's trash is another's treasure and it's all good!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! Love what you did with it.
ReplyDeleteIt would work for me! lol I am looking or a nesting box for my Chicken Mansion, and that would work perfectly if I took the back off it. I would mount it on the wall with the drawer to the outside and I could open the drawer to get my eggs without going into the coop.
Those vintage suitcases are the perfect topper! Love the entire look!
ReplyDeleteJeanine
Of course!! I love how you used the old suitcases to make it into the table, Very nice!
ReplyDeleteHope your day is Plum Perfect!!
Yup...love it! LOL on the dancing - me too!
ReplyDeleteJan

Hi Jane,
ReplyDeleteI can see the potential here, but I just know it's going to look stunning when you've revamped & tweaked it, as only you can!
Looking forward to seeing it again then.
Maggie

ReplyDeleteFor $5, I would definitely buy. I love drawers! Your suitcases look great sitting on top, and it does make a fabulous beside table.
ReplyDeleteI probably would have passed but I know after seeing what you'll do with it, I would have wished that I had bought it. I think it needs some wheels!
ReplyDelete(and I love SYTYCD)
This piece is a definite buy! You scored!
ReplyDeleteSherry
I would have bought it too. Leave it to you to come up with some fabulous idea.
ReplyDeleteHi Jane! I have had company and not had time for the computer, so I have been missing all your great ideas. Oh yeah, I would have bought this. Not sure I would have come up with such a great functional purpose for it as you have done. What a great idea to use it as a hanging shelf.
ReplyDeletexOx
Jane, The drawer really does look fantastic as a shelf!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have bought the drawer.
ReplyDeleteBut I don't have the foresight to see the gem that you exposed.
For sure! It's the perfect side table...always love that layered look :) Laurel
ReplyDeleteLove it. That wood is a gorgeous color and it looks perfect with the old luggage.
