I am long overdue writing a thank you to all of you for your overwhelming kindness and concern for me and my family. I read each and every one of your comments and e-mails and appreciate the thoughts and prayers sent our way. It really meant a lot to me.
I would like to share a quick update with all of you. After a very rough couple of weeks around the Thanksgiving holiday, Bruce's condition has stabilized. Some of the troubling symptoms he was experiencing are under control and he is much more comfortable now. He can no longer walk or stand and I have become quite adept using a hoyer lift to get him in and out of his bed and/or power chair. His voice is pretty much gone but he is still able to use his hands and that has been a blessing as technology has become his way to communicate with family and friends via texting, e-mail and facebook. It hasn't been an easy transition into what we now call our new "normal" but we do feel very blessed that we are welcoming in a new year together.
Happy New Year to all of you! Thank you again for all of your support!
Jane

Continued prayers for you, your husband and entire family...
ReplyDeleteBig hug,
Laura

I discovered blogs about a yr ago and enjoy reading a few in the evening as a stress reliever. I've been a silent follower of your blog for about a year and have looked forward to your consistent postings and marveled at your creativity and insight. Even though I have not yet duplicated any of your great ideas you have brought me much inspiration and joy with your re-purposing and crafting genius. We've never communicated but regardless, I feel a bond with you and as such needed to thank you for your blogging and to offer my sympathy over your husband's illness , my happiness that you've found a new "normal" in dealing with the illness and my wishes for a wonderful start to a new year.
ReplyDeleteKeeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers Jane...and a hug to you!

ReplyDeleteJane, so good to hear from you. You and your husband have been on my mind lately. So happy to hear that he still has use of his hands. That is such a big relief I'm sure that he can still communicate via texting. The loss of communication is so very difficult. I can remember my brother's frustration so well.

ReplyDeleteI don't know how I missed seeing this post! You and Bruce have been in my daily prayers and will continue to be as you continue on this journey. "new normal" is an appropriate description I guess. I'm glad that in this age of advanced technology, Bruce can still communicate with devices. I'm sure you are completely drained. I hope you are getting rest and taking time to tinker...your mind needs those breaks. Take care Jane.
ReplyDeleteHugs~

Happy to see you back. Your story inspires me... well, it's you and your husband who inspire me. God bless you!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to hear from you. I'm glad that things have settled down now and you are able to get back to blogging. A couple of my friends were able to borrow a voice synthesizer from the ALS Association, but I'm thinking you might already know about that technology and he prefers what he's using. Thought I'd mention it anyway. You're in my thoughts and prayers.
