Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to go picking in an old barn.
The homeowners had gone through everything they wanted, an antique dealer had been through to purchase what he wanted and what was left was available for me to pick through. And the only charge....my sweat equity of hauling it away.
I keep referring to my haul as "the island of misfits" (from the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer TV special). I brought home broken chairs, drawers from dressers, broken trunks and other pieces and parts of furniture that nobody else wanted.
This is one of the chairs that came home with me.
The chair was sturdy, just very dirty and missing a piece on the back.
Look how much prettier she is after getting cleaned and polished.
I kept contemplating what to do with the back of the chair and decided a simple solution (and temporary if I want it to be) would be to wrap the back with string and turn the back into a photo display.
This was so easy to do and I love how it turned out.
I got the mini clothespins in the craft section of Walmart.
They are a great size and don't overpower the photo display.
So, one project down......a few dozen more to go!

ReplyDeleteLucky you!! Looks like you had fun digging through that barn. I think that the chair redo is amazing!! In fact pretty much everything you do is amazing! I got to ask, that chair with the springs/burlap, will you be keeping it or selling it? If you are selling it, I would be interested in it.
ReplyDeleteI just love what you did with the free chair, esp. the pictures.
