Remembering Dad

My sweet Dad passed away yesterday.

It's hard to put into a few words all I could say about Dad and what he taught me.
Through his actions I learned the importance of family, of being there for each other, of hard work and unconditional love.

A message a family friend wrote today was a perfect description of Dad:

Shorty will always be remembered as the perfect gentleman. He was always kind and so very happy to tell you about his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. One of our fondest memories of Shorty was stopping by the house to say hello and asking him how the family was. He would ask if you had an extra minute and would open the closet door in the living room and so proudly pull out his most recent photo album that he had just finished. Shorty was a quiet gentleman with a very sweet and sincere smile and a unique Shorty laugh. He taught our family how to appreciate the little things in life.

These are just a few of my favorite pictures of Dad and his family that he loved so much.

  3. Jane, So sorry about the loss of your Dad. I loved looking at the pictures of your family. I have similar ones of my own family (Easter 1961 I have an almost identical one. Love the hats.) I lost my Dad in 2005, but how lucky I feel that I have known every moment of my life that I am loved and cherished. I know that you will miss him but what a gift to have been so loved. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

  119. This is my first time to your lovely blog- I was led here by a photo of your fabulous studio on Pinterest. I want to share my sincerest sympathies for you and your family on the loss of your sweet dad. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful photo journal of his life, it brought me to tears. Like you, I am grieving the recent loss of my father. This is a very hard chapter in our lives, but I know we're in good company. I hope the next few days and weeks go smooth with all the details to be worked out.

    Warmly,

Thank you for sharing a bit of your dad with us all. I love old photos and really enjoyed seeing just a small part of his life through your photos.

  142. I am so sorry for your loss of two amazing men. Just reading about your wonderful family has been uplifting. I somehow just fell into your beautiful blog and have been so impressed by your outlook and talent. I share your passion for junk (and have sheds full) but not your gift for creativity and display! I shall return often (I've pinned you and your booth location) for inspiration. Thanks for all you share here.

  145. I lost my Daddy on Dec.14,2011. It hardly seems like it has been 7 months. Our family is feeling the large hole left without him. All the first's are the hardest.
My heart, prayers, and continual thoughts go out to you and your family. I so enjoyed all your pictures of him and your family. You could tell he was a very fine man. That generation was amazing. How lucky we all are to have had these men in our lives.
Stay close to those you love. Hold them tight. I hope you find peace and comfort. Grief takes a long time to work its way through a life.
If you ever need an understanding ear I am here.
    Elizabeth.

  147. My heart goes out to you, Jane. Thank you for sharing such a loving tribute to your Dad, and your family - a celebration of your Dad's life, it seems to me. I can only echo the words of Elizabeth Golden, above, as to her thoughts on grief. I lost my dad 2 years ago, and at times it seems like yesterday. Grieving is such a personal and individual thing, and yet we are all connected by our common experiences. God bless you on this difficult journey.
